&lt;p&gt;To make the bar-driving example better, the competing friends should be on the city council.  One debater has a vested interest in proving a certain route is inefficient, so that he can generate a bunch of artificial jobs getting people to build a new lane.  The other debater is a little off his rocker and firmly believes his road-of-choice is preferable to God and that he&#039;s saving sinners from the dark road ;)&lt;/p&gt;
